Gucci Mane sent to psychiatric facility by judge
Image Credit: Ric Feld/AP ImagesA judge in the Superior Court of Georgia’s Fulton County ordered rapper Gucci Mane to a psychiatric hospital yesterday, according to court documents.
Gucci Mane was arrested in November for alleged reckless driving; the charges were soon dropped, but Gucci nonetheless faced possible revocation of his probation from a previous crime. The documents reveal that his lawyers filed a Special Plea of Mental Incompetency on Dec. 27 arguing that he is unable “to go forward and/or intelligently participate in the probation revocation hearing.” He is currently awaiting a hearing on his competency. In the meantime, the judge ordered yesterday that Gucci be transported to an Atlanta hospital identified on its website as “an 111-bed psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment facility.”
This is only the latest troubling development for Gucci Mane, who despite growing fame and critical acclaim has repeatedly run afoul of the law. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that he has been incarcerated in Fulton County “at least five times since 2005.” Gucci Mane’s label declined to comment on this story.
