On the red carpet at the Dec. 18 premiere of Gulliver’s Travels — which was held at Los Angeles’ Grauman’s Chinese Theatre — Jack Black described his mind-bending role in the 2011 movie, which is penned by Gulliver’s co-star Jason Segel. “I will be playing myself,” Black says. “It’s kind of like Being John Malkovich. It is a new twist on the Muppets. Very cerebral and meta.” (Let’s hope our popcorn comes complete with a complementary thinking cap!)

Black may be joking when he says “we have our eyes on Oscar 2012,” but then again, the Muppets film does co-star Academy darling Amy Adams. As well as nearly everyone else in Hollywood — the film is rife with cameos from the likes of Zach Galifianakis, Ricky Gervais, and Billy Crystal. Black, for one, can thank Segel for entering into the fray. “It is a little tit for tat,” he says. “I gave him a gig in Gulliver’s and he said, ‘Wanna come do a little something for me and the Muppets?’ I’m very excited. I’m going to shoot [it] in January. I better read the script. It’s time to get ready and memorize.”
