Summit Entertainment announced today that the Mel Gibson dark comedy The Beaver will have a limited release on March 23, expanding to more theaters April 8. (A previous announcement had just specified the film would come out in the spring.) The dark comedy features Gibson as a man who copes with a nervous breakdown by creating an alter ego in the form of a beaver puppet; Jodie Foster (who also directed) plays his long-suffering wife. The film was pushed from a fall 2010 release in the wake of abuse allegations by Gibson’s ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.
