Universal has confirmed that they’re sparking a reboot of the 1984 film, Firestarter, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. Variety had the original report that the studio and De Laurentiis Co. intended to resurrect the project next year as a possible franchise. Mark L. Smith (Vacancy) is penning the new script. Drew Barrymore, then nine years old, played the original film’s hero, but the new film is seeking a little more edge from its main character.
