Moore/PR PhotosEW has confirmed that stand-up comic and star of FX’s Rescue Me Denis Leary is in talks to join director Marc Webb’s new Spider-Man movie as police captain George Stacy, the father of Peter Parker’s love interest Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). (The Hollywood Reporter first reported the story.) In the comics, Capt. Stacy is a major advocate of Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield), although in one storyline, he’s killed amid a battle between the web-slinger and Doctor Octopus. In 2007’s Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man 3, the character was played by James Cromwell.

Production on Webb’s Spider-Man is set for this December, with an expected 3-D release in July 2012.
