The weird, sad tale of Randy and Evi Quaid continued this morning on Good Morning America. Andrea Canning went up to Vancouver to interview the pair, who were recently released from a Canadian detention facility after fleeing various criminal charges in the U.S. The interview makes for difficult viewing, unless you have a profoundly bleak sense of humor. The Quaids describe themselves as “refugees” fleeing from what Randy calls “a malignant tumor of star-whackers in Hollywood.” He goes on: “It is very possible that Heath Ledger could have been murdered. Or David Carradine.”

Despite Canning’s prodding, the Quaids never quite get around to describing who, precisely, is chasing them, although Evi mentions “an estate planner who has created a living trust in a county that could cash Randy’s royalty stream forever.” She also blames the Mafia, and argues that Mel Gibson’s phone rants were the product of a sting by said Estate-Planning Mafia: “I think he was drugged. I think he was slipped a mickey.”
