According to Variety, the tone of After Lately, for which E! has ordered up eight episodes, will be similar to the off-the-cuff improv feel of The Larry Sanders Show. Besides Handler, other comedians set to appear include Guy Branum, Sarah Colonna, Heather McDonald (!), Chris Franjola and Brad Wollack.

What do you think of the timing of this announcement Handler fans and foes? Her hosting chops on MTV’s VMAs were largely panned, but perhaps she’s got plenty of goodwill out there to spare. I admit I kind of dig her mean-drunk style of comedy. She strikes me as tough and obnoxious, but the type of loyal friend who would hold your hair when you threw up or kick someone’s ass for looking at your guy the wrong way. Will you be similarly loyal and tune into her planned laffer? Or does the prospect of more Chelsea Handler make you nauseous?
