Kanye West vents about leaked music, revokes Internet's free tune privileges
Image Credit: Will Ragozzino/Getty ImagesHappy now, Internet? Yesterday a new Kanye West song called “Lost in the World” leaked online and was promptly posted on tons of music sites. Except that was just an unfinished version of “Lost in the World,” as anyone who listened closely might have noticed. West is so mad about this that he’s calling off his “G.O.O.D. Friday” program of gifting us with a brand-new 100% free song at the end of every week.
“Due to blogs leaking unfinished songs from my actual album I’ve decided to pass of Good Fridays this week,” West tweeted late last night. “It’s messed up that one hacker can mess everything up for everyone… I love to take a year to finish my songs and deliver them to you guys in there most completed form… It would have seemed like since I give free music every week even the lowest form of human being would respect that enough not to leak unfinished songs from my real album…”
He’s got a point there. This guy has been giving us tons of awesome free music lately, and still people feel the need to break into his files and steal works in progress? Greedy, greedy fans. Luckily, it sounds like he’ll be bringing “G.O.O.D. Fridays” back next week, and he later tweeted that he’s been staying in the studio ’til 3 A.M. every night to finish his album as soon as possible.
OCT. 1 UPDATE: West appeared to relent today, tweeting, “For the real hip hop fans… even though I had to shift all my energy to mixing my album [due] to leaks…. I’m trying to still deliver a new Good Friday song 2nt… Let’s pray!!!” Whew.
Did you hear “Lost in the World” when it leaked? (Don’t tell Kanye I said this, but it was pretty dope even in incomplete form.) What do you think of his decision to punish us by skipping “G.O.O.D. Fridays” this week? How much longer can you wait for his album?
