Image Credit: Francois DuhamelOut promoting next Tuesday’s DVD release of this summer’s Iron Man 2, Marvel studio head Kevin Feige confirmed that they are throwing around the idea of a Black Widow spin-off movie. The character, which was introduced in the Iron Man sequel and played by Scarlett Johansson, was the Soviet femme fatale that kicked major tail by the movie’s end, for those of you not fluent in superhero. “We’ve already started discussions with Scarlett about the idea of a solo movie and have begun putting together concepts, but The Avengers comes first,” said Feige to SuperHeroHype.

In theory, it sounds like a great idea. But in the past, superhero spin-offs have not fared well at the box office. Remember Catwoman, Halle Berry’s 2004 bust where she played Batman’s bad kitty? And what about Jennifer Garner’s 2005 Daredevil spin-off Elektra? In both cases, award-winning actresses crashed and burned in superhero flicks. Could Johansson break the curse with Black Widow?

Tell me, PopWatchers: Do you think the home run hitters at Marvel would be able to guide the Black Widow to success?
