'Tangled': Rapunzel takes center stage in second trailer
When Disney released its first trailer for Tangled a couple of months ago, it left some scratching their heads. Was this winkingly modern updating of the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale — with Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi providing the voices — sill about the girl with really long hair? Or was it now all about the dashing young dude who saves her from the castle tower? In an attempt to appeal to more than just the girls in the audience, it seemed as if Disney had written Rapunzel out of her own story, or at least out of the trailer, making instead a princess movie for boys. Was that why the studio had previously changed the title from Rapunzel to Tangled?
But now, with today’s just-released second trailer, the controversy should be put to rest: It’s Rapunzel’s story after all. She’s all over this new footage, with the male character, a dashing but bumbling outlaw named Flynn, playing second fiddle as narrator. They’ve also bumped up the horse’s part from barely-in-the first-trailer to omnipresent sidekick in the second. Personally, we’re relieved to see the old girl getting her due. A Rapunzel movie without Rapunzel would have us pulling our hair out. But what do you think, PopWatchers? Does the second trailer make you want to see this movie?
