The inspiration behind this drama, which is shot in a faux-documentary style, comes from an unlikely place. ”Like all great television shows, it’s based on a Swedish show,” says exec producer Noah Hawley (The Unusuals) with a laugh. The Americanized version of said show (On God’s Highway) follows nine former Texas high schoolers from the class of 2000, who are trailed by camera crews 10 years later. To build chemistry, the cast — including True Blood’s Mehcad Brooks as a soldier and Wedding Crashers’ Keir O’Donnell as a lovesick nerd — headed down South for some hang time. Says O’Donnell, ”They gave us about two and a half weeks down in Austin to bond with each other. It was sort of instantaneous.” SEPT. 23
