After a ”sitcommy” fifth season that even the showrunners agree wasn’t their best, ”there’s gonna be more mystery and depth to the show this year,” says HIMYM exec producer Carter Bays. ”We’ve locked into a story that puts these characters through the wringer, but also moves everyone closer to where we want to take the series.” Ted (Josh Radnor) gets a chance to design the Goliath National Bank building, Marshall (Jason Segel) and Lily (Alyson Hannigan) start trying — and struggling — to have a baby, and Robin (Cobie Smulders) engages in a rivalry with her new coanchor (Laura Bell Bundy). And Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) finally acknowledges that Bob Barker isn’t his father, then sets out to find the real one. (Wayne Brady will return as Barney’s brother.) In the premiere, we get a game-changing wedding. As for whose wedding…yeah, they’re not telling.
