Conceptually, there’s no way An Idiot Abroad should fail: Ricky Gervais sends his podcast buddy/world-class dolt Karl Pilkington out into the world to face foreign customs and situations that make him feel skittish. Hilarity ensues. It’s just that the trailer for the show, which will premiere on Britain’s Sky-1 next month, is perhaps a tad less funny than Gervais’ uproarious laughter would indicate. I’d rather they had cut some “Brit in goofy hat” shots and given us a few more of Pilkington’s obtuse observations (i.e. comparing the Egyptian pyramids to “a game of Jenga that’s got out of hand”). But maybe you’ll disagree. Check out the preview below and let me know if you, too, wish you’d gotten a few more laughs from your first look at An Idiot Abroad, or if I’m just an idiot on a blog. (Quite possible!)
