Rupright, the current mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, hasn’t yet decided whether he’ll run for reelection in October 2011, but he has offered advice for his potential opposition, Levi Johnston, who’s announced he’ll vie for the office for a new reality show. “Well, it is a little early to declare. Usually most wait until the year the seat is up,” Rupright says in a statement. “But since I am nearly old enough to be Levi’s grandfather I think it would be wise for him to get a high school diploma and keep his clothes on. The voters like that!” Johnston, the 20-year-old father of Sarah Palin’s grandson Tripp who’s posed for Playgirl, is currently pitching Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor’s Office to networks. Mayor Rupright, who’s held the position since 2008, is a Vietnam vet who’s also served as a defense and personal injury attorney for most of his career.

The City of Wasilla will hold its next mayoral election on Oct. 4, 2011. (Palin held the office from 1996 to 2002.) The filing period for candidacy is July 18 through July 29, 2011. In the meantime, Johnston is said to be considering a run for Wasilla City Council, but he’ll have to mount a write-in campaign if he hopes to get on the 2010 ballot. Wasilla’s deputy city clerk confirms to EW that Johnston missed the filing period for the Oct. 5, 2010 election, which ended July 30.

Is this a show you’d watch? We’re talking about the actual show, not just the Daily Show or Colbert Report coverage of debates.
