Sources confirm to EW that Robin Wright, the 44-year-old actress who is currently filming Moneyball opposite Brad Pitt, is in negotiations for a major role in David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Wright is expected to sign a deal to play the part of Erika Berger, the editor-in-chief of Millennium magazine and long-time lover of protagonist Mikael Blomkvist, who will be played by Daniel Craig. The news was first reported in Deadline Hollywood.
The role, while significant in the first novel, grows in the two subsequent books, and Wright’s deal will include an option on the other two movies. Both CAA and Sony Pictures declined comment on the part. The studio and filmmakers are still in the hunt for their titular Girl, a decision that fans of Stieg Larsson’s “Millennium Trilogy” hope they will arrive at shortly.
