The idea was brought to my attention after a blogger wrote about how he approached Community star Yvette Nicole Brown at Comic-Con with the casting suggestion and recently started a Facebook group to give the campaign some steam. Later, I found out Brown has been working toward this goal for a while, mentioning it in an interview and on her Twitter page.
This is where I’d normally air some concerns about the casting possibility, but I don’t really have any. Shirley’s charmingly docile demeanor often leaves her pegged as the mom of the group, and it’s time for the mom to get some lovin’. Some hot, muscled lovin’. Isaiah Mustafa, that’s your cue.
I even like the idea of him playing Shirley’s ex. Can’t you see it? A hunk of a man rolls up to Greendale and charms the masses, leaving everyone in the gang thinking Shirley is a fool for leaving him. Then, in the end, it turns out he has an unappealing freaky trait or habit — something that even Pierce finds disturbing. Yea, it’d have to be that unsettling. My mind isn’t currently twisted enough to think of what that unfavorable attribute might be, but you get the picture.
What do you say, PopWatchers? Does Shirley deserve a little (Old) spice in her life? Will you be joining the cause? If all this campaigning works, I plan starting my “Sandra for Supernatural‘s Dean Winchester” group on Facebook. Stay tuned.
