'America's Got Talent': The return of Prince Poppycock
Last night’s America’s Got Talent raised some real questions — like, would anyone really go see two tweens ballroom dance in Las Vegas? Why doesn’t Rudi Macaggi’s lovely assistant get a named credit? Where does Prince Poppycock practice? And finally, what does Mary Ellen’s continued presence on the show say about America in general? (That schadenfreude is as strong a human urge as denial? Hm.)
The final 12 quarter finalists displayed some impressive skills. Prince Poppycock already seemed like a Vegas pro, ArcAttack was pretty cool — though I wonder if Fighting Gravity sort of cancels them out? — and Rudi Macaggi definitely got a shriek out of me. Don’t try this at home, kiddies.
That said, is anyone else getting a bit of finalist fatigue? The field is just way, way too wide, as evidenced by Anna and Patryk and Lindsey Stirling still getting stage time. Both those acts are adequate — decent dancing, acceptable dance-fiddling I guess? — but we’re 10 weeks in. Let’s get to the real cream of the crop already!
What did you think, PopWatchers? Whom are you pulling for?
