Nearly a week after being sued for sexual harassment by a former coworker, actor-filmmaker Casey Affleck, 34, has fired back, claiming that he was the victim of an extortion plot and asking California’s Superior Court to settle the case in arbitration instead of letting it go to a jury. In a motion filed yesterday, Affleck’s attorney claimed that Amanda White, a producer of Affleck’s upcoming documentary I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix, has “concocted this fabricated sexual harassment lawsuit over a year after she failed in her devious attempt [to] extort a better production deal by walking off the film…” Affleck also says that White’s original contract on the film requires her to settle any production-related legal matters in arbitration.
