It’s been long rumored that Twilight star Taylor Lautner was handpicked to play a young blue-furred Beast. And Singer indeed did admit that he had wanted the artist currently known as Jacob to play a role in the film. (Of course, as we already have learned, the actor’s schedule was too packed to fit another project in.)

“I wanted Taylor to do it, I really did,” Singer said. “He’s doing a movie in Pittsburgh called Abduction, and then he’s got the next Twilight movie. We talked about it a lot. He is a friend. And I really wanted to make it work. It just doesn’t look like it’s possible to do it.” Too bad. We can’t help but wonder whether he would have been a good fit for Beast? (Even though he’d have to pile on some more weight, for sure.) I’d think, however, he’d make a better Ice Man or Collosus. At least we’d still get to see him in regular form. What do you think? Who would you have liked to see Lautner play in First Class?
