Image Credit: Amy GoldbergTo commemorate Soul Train‘s 40th Anniversary, Time Life is releasing a 3-DVD set, The Best of Soul Train, on Aug. 31, with 50 performances — many of which haven’t been seen in more than 30 years. Now, granted, I was originally excited about this because I misread the press release and thought it said The Best of Soul Train in 3-D. (Wouldn’t the Soul Train Dance Line look awesome?!) But I can still get behind this. In addition to the performances from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, the Jackson Five, the Commodores, and Sly & The Family Stone, “Viewers will re-live the original dance styles and scene-stealing fashions from the heart of the ’70’s as well as favorite moments from the Soul Train Dance Line to the beloved Soul Train Scramble Board,” the release says. “Also included are on-air interviews with the artists, classic Soul Train dancers, and some vintage commercials for Ultra Sheen and Afro Sheen products.”

Bonus: “Marvin Gaye and Don Cornelius playing one-on-one basketball with Smokey Robinson refereeing.”
