The whip-smart teen comedy Easy A isn’t out till Sept. 17, but Stone’s snarky charm has already turned its trailer into one of the summer’s hottest Web clips. The 21-year-old says her character — a star student who pretends to be a bad girl after lying about having sex — parallels her new life in Hollywood. ”Because of my job, people are always coming up with crap about you,” she says. ”You have to deny, ignore, or go with it. [My character] is like, ‘F— it!’ I like that mentality.” After Easy A, she’ll team up with Steve Carell in an as-yet-untitled comedy and star in the big-screen version of The Help. But major roles aren’t about to give her a big head. ”My first break was The New Partridge Family on VH1,” she laughs. ”But thank God I did it. You’re not so worried about making a silly choice in a movie when you were already Laurie Partridge, playing the air keyboards. It gives you a lot of humility.”
