It helps I guess that I was into gymnastics as a kid. (True story: I got an e-mail a few months ago from my dad that just said “Today is Shannon Miller’s birthday!” I was a really big fan of hers.) But the bigger draw is that the show has distilled teen dramas into their most concentrated form: There’s the once and future heroine, the villain (with hairdos so perfect Blair Waldorf would weep), the one from the wrong side of the tracks, the champion with the secret. There’s the good parents, the bad parents, the poor parents, and the cheater parents; the fought-over guy, the emo guy, the inappropriately hot coach, and the disgraced former coach who now heads up a rival squad. It’s every old-school 90210 premise jammed into one magnificent leotard, and I love it like Brenda Walsh loves heavy bangs and high-waisted jeans: too much for my own good.

Admit it, PopWatchers: You’re as excited as I am to see the fall-out between Kaylie and Lauren, right? Can Summer and Sasha get together for reals already?
