People reports Scott Hamilton underwent brain surgery today to remove a benign tumor near his pituitary gland. (The tumor first appeared in 2004.) The ice skater’s rep tells People: “They’re happy with the progress of the entry process, and now [doctors] can begin to get rid of the tumor.” Half of the procedure has been completed — Hamilton is expected to fully recover.
