The trailer for Michael Winterbottom’s The Killer Inside Me, based on the novel by Jim Thompson, was released yesterday, teasing us with grim shots of the deep south and its tortured main character, Lou Ford, played by Casey Affleck. The trailer itself makes the film look very Coen-esque, especially with Affleck channeling the scary stoneface quality that Javier Bardem so masterfully played as Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men.

What it leaves out for obvious reasons is the ultra-violent murders we’ve already heard about from its Sundance premiere. Knowing the kind of gruesome fate some of these characters will face makes me all the more queasy while watching. I consider that a fair warning that neither I — nor my gut — can handle this one. Although, the burst of sunshine that is the beautiful Simon Baker helps!
