Rated T (for teen)

You’re the titular best-selling novelist, stuck in a spooky Pacific Northwest town with a missing wife, pages from a manuscript that’s somehow coming to life, and a whole lot of possessed bad guys. Structured like a serialized TV show (including ”previously on” recaps), Alan Wake works reasonably well as an attempt at gaming-as-storytelling, like a more conventional take on February’s bleaker and freakier Heavy Rain. The eerie settings look fantastic, but the convoluted plot borrows a little too heavily from Twin Peaks, The Twilight Zone, and Stephen King, and the game itself could use some more polish and invention.
