Summer of 2011 will mark an epic showdown between comic book powerhouses: Marvel icons Thor and Captain America will battle with DC icon Green Lantern for box office supremacy. This year, conversely, is a chance for some lesser-known properties to hit the screen. We’ve already seen Kick-Ass and The Losers, and August brings Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Personally, I’m most excited about Jonah Hex, an adaptation of a the gruesomely bizarro horror-western. A trailer for the movie just hit the internet; check it out after the jump.

I was never a huge fan of the comic book series, which is probably a good thing, since the movie seems to ignoring heavy swaths of the source material. From my memory, Hex put more emphasis on stark horror than on chain guns and boat explosions. (I also don’t seem to recall any comely frontier damsels.) But how can you argue with this cast? The titular role seems tailormade for Brolin, and John Malkovich looks to be enjoying himself as the villain. I thought Megan Fox was great in the underrated Jennifer’s Body, and this role seems to be playing to her vampish strengths. Also, was that Will Arnett as a Union soldier? This movie looks bananas, and I’m loving it.

What do you think, PopWatchers? Do you think Jonah Hex can pull off the weird genre mash of western, supernatural horror, and big-explosion action? Does Josh Brolin actually look more attractive with those burn scars? Can Will Arnett star in a remake of Glory? Sound off below!
