Johnny Depp: Is there anything the man can’t do? The Mad Hatter’s latest project is directing a music video for British rockers Babybird‘s “Unloveable,” which you can watch after the jump.

As you’ll see, it’s a stark, dramatic clip. We open in black and white, with singer Stephen Jones about to be executed by hanging for crimes unknown. Our hero escapes the gallows, dodges pursuers, and flashes back to past experiences, until — well, I won’t ruin the surprise ending for you, but you might remember it from middle-school English. As Vulture notes, the video’s plot is taken from Ambrose Bierce’s 1890 short story “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge,” a trippy classic set during the Civil War that was later adapted into a Twilight Zone episode. How literary!

Check out the video after the jump and let us know what you think of Depp’s handiwork.
