Banksy is arguably the most famous street artist in the world, despite the fact that no one really knows exactly who he is or what he looks like. Here are some of his most memorable (and often illegal) works.

1. The West Bank-sy
In 2005, he took a trip to the Gaza Strip to leave his graffitied mark on one of the world’s most famous walls. He painted nine images on the Palestinian side of the barrier as security forces fired warning shots in the air.

2. Do-It-Yourself Museum Show
Who needs to wait for your art to be accepted into the canon when you can put it there yourself? He has surreptitiously placed his own work on the walls of major museums like the Louvre, London’s Tate, and NYC’s MoMA.

3. Paris was Burning Mad
Upon the release of Paris Hilton’s debut album in 2006, the artist secretly replaced copies of the CD in 48 U.K. stores with his own version, which included an altered cover and remixes with titles like ”Why Am I Famous?” and ”What Am I For?”
