Nine months is a painfully long wait for new Mad Men episodes, but the DVD release of season 3 (Conrad Hilton hires Don Draper, Sal gets outed in a hotel in Baltimore, JFK is assassinated) gives fans something to tide them over until TV’s smartest drama returns this summer. Some of the EXTRAS seem a bit off point (a photomontage of MLK’s March on Washington?), but the voice-over commentaries are intriguing — if not always illuminating — with cast and crew dissecting every frame: ”This, of course, is an image that I put in the script,” creator Matthew Weiner says as the camera lingers poignantly on a pan of simmering milk. ”I don’t know what it means…” Season: A Extras: B
