Reuters reports punk rocker Patti Smith will receive the Founders Award during ASCAP’s pop music awards dinner April 21. The musician, poet, and author will also perform at the event. “She expanded the boundaries of artistic expression, musically and otherwise, inspiring generations of rockers worldwide,” Paul Williams, the ASCAP president and CEO, said in a statement. “She continues to be a vibrant, prolific artist, working in a wide variety of media.” Previous winners of the lifetime achievement award include Paul McCartney and Joni Mitchell.
