Universal has signed writers Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith (The Ugly Truth, The House Bunny) to pen an update of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, reports Variety. Based on the 1978 Broadway hit, the original 1982 big-screen musical starred Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds as a madame and a sheriff trying to save their local whorehouse. The new version will include musical numbers, although the studio won’t say whether the original show’s songs (including the Parton-penned “I Will Always Love You”) will be revived.
