Patrician author Louis Auchincloss died Tuesday at age 92, reports the AP. The prolific writer of more than 50 books (such as The House of Five Talents, The Embezzler, and The Rector of Justin) also happened to be a cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and close friend of Gore Vidal’s, who paid tribute to the writer on Wednesday for his keen understanding of the American upper class. “Nobody else took those kinds of people, nobody understood them, except in the dumbest way,” Vidal said.
