Costa Book prize goes to Christopher Reid's 'A Scattering'
Britain’s Costa Book of the Year Award was given today to Christopher Reid’s poetry collection A Scattering, inspired by his wife’s death. According to the AP, the favorite to win had been Colm Toibin’s Brooklyn. Graham Farmelo’s The Strangest Man won the biography prize, Raphael Selbourne won the first novel award for Beauty, and Patrick Ness won the children’s book prize for The Ask and the Answer. The prizes were formerly called the Whitbread Book Awards.
