Universal is in negotiations with Sam Worthington to star in its upcoming tentpole film, Dracula: Year Zero. News of the big-ticket, blood-sucker project was first reported by the movie site Latino Review, but the studio confirmed to Entertainment Weekly today that it is in talks with the Avatar star. Reps for Worthington have not responded to requests for comment. The project will reportedly be helmed by I, Robot director Alex Proyas for a summer 2011 release and will be a period picture tracing Dracula’s roots in Transylvania. Worthington’s next film is another big-ticket spin on a classic franchise, Clash of the Titans.

Another “roots of Dracula” project, Vlad, is in the works at Summit and Plan B.
