Singer/songwriter Bobby Charles dies

Musician Bobby Charles, who wrote hits for Bill Haley and Fats Domino, died on Thursday at his home in Louisiana. He was 71. Charles had a minor hit with “Later Alligator” in 1955, two years before Bill Haley & the Comets took their version to the Top 10. He also wrote “Walking to New Orleans,” which Domino made a hit in 1960.
According to Variety, the cause of death was unknown pending a medical examination.
