'Whale Wars' vessel rammed by Japanese whaling ship

Six members of the anti-whaling Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, which is featured on Animal Planet’s Whale Wars, had their ship wrecked in a collision with a Japanese whaling ship, the Los Angeles Times reports. The Sea Shepherd’s Ady Gil vessel had its bow sheared off after it was rammed by the Japanese ship Shonan Maru 2. The six crew members were rescued by another Sea Shepherd ship, Bob Barker — named after the former The Price Is Right host, who donated $5 million to Sea Shepherd. Animal Planet’s Whale Wars crew reportedly captured the incident on film, so expect to see the encounter during the reality show’s upcoming third season.
