Not sure why, but I get a little sad every time I see Luke Wilson in an AT&T commercial. Perhaps because they’re the only thing I’ve seen him in recently, or because I always feel like they’re going to be funny and then they’re not, or because my mother is so pro-Owen that Luke has become my Wilson brother of choice by default and I desire something better for him. Either way, there’s no need to worry now: Luke has just been cast in Mike White’s new HBO comedy pilot Enlightened. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Laura Dern stars as Amy: “a self-destructive woman who after a meltdown has a spiritual awakening and becomes determined to live an enlightened life, creating havoc at home and work.” Wilson plays Levi: “Amy’s unkempt ex-husband who has a drug problem.” Sounds like a winner to me, especially when you add in Diane Ladd, Dern’s real-life mother, playing her screen mom for the fifth time.
Are you psyched to see him on your TV on a weekly basis? (It’d be his first regular series gig and a smart move, I think. He’s a character actor, not a leading man.) Who else expects those AT&T commercials to be funnier?
