Not Feelin’ It
Your Best of the Decade issue sucked. Tina Fey isn’t funny, Oprah is simply annoying, and The Lord of the Rings is not the decade’s best film. That honor should’ve gone to the hugely entertaining Hairspray, which had great music, an appealing cast, and a dancing Christopher Walken.

Miss Congeniality
When I tell my movie-snob friends that Sandra Bullock is among the most engaging actors out there, I usually hear a dismissive snort (#1081). But the proof is on display in Crash, and with her 2009 box office record, I’d love to see what directors like Lynch and Fincher could do with her chops.

Props to Peter Jackson for sheltering his cast, crew, and audience from the brutality of Susie’s death in The Lovely Bones (News & Notes, #1081). Emphasizing the theme of mourning, not victimhood, supports the novel’s tone. Once again, he’s earned my respect.
