Seaside Heights, N.J. — the home of MTV’s controversial new reality hit Jersey Shore — is all but disowning the show that has made it infamous, the AP reports. In a statement Monday, the borough said it “did not solicit, promote, or participate in the filming” of the series about 20-somethings in a beach house; it merely issued routine permits allowing crews to shoot in its jurisdiction. Jersey Shore has been criticized by Italian-American groups for its stereotypical portrayals, and town officials say it does not reflect the majority of its visitors.
