'Boy' trailer: Michael Jackson love and indie spirit collide

The little New Zealand-set gem Boy — yes, it’s the kind of film we can call a little gem based only on the minute and 16 seconds we’ve seen in the just-released trailer — will premiere at Sundance next month full of whimsy and Michael Jackson nostalgia. The coming-of-age comedy looks appropriately adorable, touching, and quirky, but what’s really interesting is the Michael Jackson-mania-driven plot. Set in 1984, it seems to capture the way everything we did that year (especially those of us around 10 years old) was steeped in MJ fever. Who knows how such a plot would’ve played a year ago, but now, of course, couldn’t be a more perfect time for it:
