'Chipmunks': How do parents cope?

When I was 4 or 5, I had a portable record player and a favorite record — Christmas with the Chipmunks — and I seem to remember my dad hated it so much, he hid the album from me. In the interest of investigative journalism, I asked dad about this last night, and he said “doesn’t remember” doing such a thing, but it could be possible since those singing chipmunks made his ears bleed. (UPDATE: Dad now says my grandfather hated it more than anyone, so if hidden, it was for grandpa’s sake.)

So, parents of Chipmunk lovers, how do you cope? Has anyone seen Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel yet? Is it bearable for adults? (EW’s Owen Gleiberman gave it a C-.)

Anyone want to sound off if the Chipmunks are more or less annoying than Barney or High School Musical? Or kids remembering what pop culture properties your parents hated when you were growing up? (That Alvin album is still missing in the Mitchell household, I think!)
