Til the Casket Drops


With the label troubles that helped inspire 2006’s unremittingly bleak Hell Hath No Fury behind them at last, Clipse face the challenge of following up that masterpiece. After Fury, it’s almost shocking to hear Pusha T and Malice rapping over cheerful beats and catchy R&B hooks. Yet the brothers’ wickedly sharp wordplay remains largely intact despite their mellowed moods. Til the Casket Drops might not be quite as spellbinding as their last one, but they’re still operating on a level of cleverness that few of their peers can match. A-
