Someone, somewhere, thought it might be a good idea for Katy Perry to reinterpret her dance-pop hits in a style that splits the difference between coffeehouse singer-songwriter and affected lounge crooner. It wasn’t. The stripped-down treatment of MTV Unplugged does Perry’s yowling voice no favors on this CD/DVD package, and these songs just aren’t solid enough to stand on their own without loads of glossy production. Please, Katy, plug yourself back in. D
