The lawyers for David Letterman and Joe Halderman, the man accused of an extortion plot against Letterman, appeared on today’s Good Morning America with host Chris Cuomo. Gerald Shargel, Halderman’s lawyer, insisted that his client was simply negotiating a legitimate business transaction when Halderman asked Letterman for $2 million in exchange for embarrassing “intellectual property.” Letterman’s attorney, Daniel Horwitz wasn’t buying it: “When you look at the totality of circumstances, this adds up to a functional gun to someone’s head, saying, ‘Pay me or else.’ “
