Writer-directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson) have cast eight key roles in their comedy-drama It’s Kind of a Funny Story and are set to begin shooting the film early next month. Based on a 2006 novel by Ned Vizzini, the film will star actor Keir Gilchrist (United States of Tara) as a teenager named Craig who checks himself into a mental health clinic to deal with the stresses of his life and finds himself stuck in the adult ward. Zach Galifianakis, star of this summer’s hit The Hangover, has been cast as a mental patient who becomes Craig’s confidante. Rounding out the cast are Emma Roberts, who plays another patient on the ward, Viola Davis, Zoe Kravitz, Lauren Graham, and Daily Show correspondent Aasif Mandvi.
