Don Cheadle, Brendan Gleeson start shoot for Irish comedy thriller
Don Cheadle and Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges, Harry Potter) have started shooting a new comedy thriller in west Ireland. John Michael McDonagh’s The Guard started principal photography this week, starring Gleeson as an unorthodox small-town Irish policeman who joins forces with straightlaced FBI agent (Cheadle) to take on a cocaine-smuggling ring. John Michael McDonagh — who is the brother of playwright/film-maker Martin McDonagh — previously wrote Ned Kelly. The Guard‘s other cast members include Mark Strong, Liam Cunningham, Fionnuala Flanagan, David Wilmot, Rory Keenan, Pat Shortt and Katarina Cas.
