Emmy-winning Will & Grace star Sean Hayes and Emmy- and Tony-winning star of stage (Wicked) and television (Pushing Daisies) Kristin Chenoweth will star in the Broadway revival of musical Promises, Promises, it was announced via a press release today. Hayes will make his Broadway debut starring in the role of Chuck Baxter opposite Chenoweth, who will return to Broadway as Fran Kubelik.

Promises, Promises is based on the 1960 Academy Award-winning Billy Wilder film The Apartment that starred Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. The original Broadway production debuted in 1968 and ran for 1,268 performances. It was nominated for eight Tony awards, winning for Best Actor (Jerry Orbach) and Best Featured Actress (Marian Mercer). The soundtrack, which includes songs such as “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again” and “Promises, Promises,” also won a Grammy in 1969. The musical was written by Neil Simon (book), Burt Bacharach (music), and Hal David (lyrics).

This new production is produced by Broadway Across America, Craig Zadan, Neil Meron, Candy Spelling, and The Weinstein Company. Opening night will be April 25, 2010, with previews beginning March 28, 2010.
