The Remix Suite

Twenty of today’s hot producers took on the thankless challenge of improving on Michael Jackson’s hits (primarily from his Jackson 5 years) for the posthumous compilation The Remix Suite. Most of the results are, to put it charitably, superfluous. (Was anyone crying out to hear ”Dancing Machine” buried under beats by Paul Oakenfold?) Yet a handful, from No ID’s shuffling ”Who’s Lovin’ You” to Dmitri From Paris’ deconstructed ”I Want You Back” to Akon’s schmaltzier-than-usual ”Ben,” succeed in reimagining the late master’s work in a way ? that actually merits multiple listens.
