Who can take a beloved children’s book, sprinkle it with dew, cover it with chocolate in a theater or two? Sam Mendes can, because he mixes things with love and makes the world taste good. The film and stage director along with Caro Newling’s Neal Street Prods. are on board to produce a stage musical based on Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, according to Risky Biz Blog. As a really cool grown woman who has posters of both the 1971 and 2005 film adaptations on her kitchen wall (creep alert!), I could not be more hungry for Wonka on stage. I will finally get to go around telling people I’m “a big fan of THE STAGE,” and they will hate me and say I’m a Bad Egg and then it’s down the garbage chute with me! It’s going to be fantastic.

This post also serves as the official kickoff of my campaign for Mendes to hire the Dancing With the Stars pros to star as the Oompa Loompas. They already know how to dance, Oompa Loompas don’t really have to know how to sing, and the pros’ temple-like bodies are always the perfect shade of burnt sienna. I know how blasphemous this seems but I’m really only half-kidding.

Okay, time to go lick snozzberries from Slezak’s office wall. How do you think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will play out as a musical?
