Some might dismiss Sam Mendes’ Away We Go as ”smug” and ”quirky” and ”precious” — and it is all of those things at times — but it’s also a sweet and touching look at a young unmarried couple defiantly trying to put down roots before their child is born. The Office‘s John Krasinski and SNL‘s Maya Rudolph are terrific together, and they get live-wire assists from Allison Janney, Jeff Daniels, and Catherine O’Hara. The EXTRAS include a slightly ho-hum commentary from Mendes and husband-and-wife co-writers Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida, and a featurette on ”green filmmaking” that actually is smug. A-
